Major Accomplishments

Suzan Aref is the founder and director of Women Empowerment Organization (WEO) which was founded in 2004, and the coordinator of Iraq Cross Sector Task Force (CSTF) for Iraq first National Action Plan (INAP). In 2012 she led a network of women NGOs for the development of the Iraqi National Action Plan, called Iraq NAP 1325 Initiative. Now, she is putting pressure along with the Alliance members to get INAP 1325 implemented across Iraq through direct work with the government ministries. She works closely with the Legal Committee of Iraq's CSTF to spearhead the government meetings for more pressure on the implementation. She received several honorary awards from the Parliament, the Kurdistan Prime Minister, the Ministry of Human Rights-Kurdistan, the Baghdad Province Council, and the Ministry of Interior for her efforts in the area of human and women rights.
Aref graduated from the College of Management and Economy, and completed the Executive Program of the Financial Institutions for Private Enterprise Development at Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government in 2008.
