Major Accomplishments

Dr. Mouna Ghanem is a Syrian politician, medical doctor, and senior gender, health, and management advisor with extensive experience in the Arab region as well as diversified experiences in leadership positions. She is a co-founder and member of the Building the Syrian State political movement. Ghanem has worked for the UN in numerous capacities: as Assistant Representative of the UN Population Fund in Syria, as Regional Director for the UN Fund for Women in Jordan, and as Deputy Chairperson for the UN International Research and Training Institute for the Advancement of Women in New York. She served as the chairperson of the Syrian Commission for family affaires in the Government of Syria. Ghanem also served in different technical committees in the Arab Women Organisation, Arab League. She is expert in women political empowerment with a special focus on the Arab region.

Ghanem served as a member of the women advisory board for the UN special envoy to Syria. She is also the founder and president of Syrian Women Forum for Peace, as well as a previous professor for communication at the Al Kalamoon private university in Syria. Ghanem frequently writes papers and articles on social and political issues in different newspapers. She holds a diploma in Public Health from the World Health Organization and a Master’s of Public Health Communication from Johns Hopkins University.
